Communicateswith the Transportation Supervisor or Manager and the Operations Teamregarding any special, late or missing pickups, and forwards theinformation to the drivers.
Coordinateswith production to ensure the mail is dispatched on time and ensures thatall transportation tasks are completed.
Reviewspick up slips for USPS supplies and communicates supply requests to thedrivers; verifies physical container counts to accompanying customer pickup slips.
Inspectsassigned vehicle per the PBPS pre-trip inspection guidelines andprocedures daily, and reports any defective findings to the TransportationSupervisor to be fixed immediately.
Recommendsmeasures to improve the performance of the transportation department.
Ensuresthe mail is reviewed for proper dates, presort slugs and a pickup slip isattached with each order prior to loading on the truck.
Ensuresall drivers are compliant with DOT regulations; assists in maintaining DOTfiles.
Maintainsa daily vehicle inspection report.
Maintainsa daily driver’s log or route sheet for mileage and cargo.
EnsuresUSPS equipment is used only for the movement of “Live” mail.
Returnsclient damaged or undeliverable mail, following internal handlingprocedures for damaged secured mail.
Usesall required cell phone applications.
Maintainscleanliness of the vehicle assigned.
Assistsin Quality Control or Barcode department between assigned pickups.
Fillsin for drivers on any shift on any day of the week with little or no priornotice.
Keepswork area clean by ensuring mail bins are under machines or in APC’s,plastic straps are off floor to prevent possible tripping hazards, andsweeping the floors between assigned pickups or deliveries, and all otherduties as assigned.
Demonstratessafety and security precautions and follows company policies.
As a Lead Driver, you have:
Validstate motor vehicle operator’s license in state where driver resides (CDLClass B) and meet applicable DOT requirements for CDL.
Minimumof six months driving experience and a minimum of 75,000 miles in thelast five years driving a Straight Truck with safe driving record.
Abilityto drive any company vehicle.
Abilityto operate a vehicle in compliance with Hours of Service regulations andcompany hours-worked program.
Abilityto maintain a safe, courteous driving record.
Abilityto work with minimum supervision.
Knowledgeof USPS regulations and mailing standards.
Basicunderstanding of production processes and mailing separations.
Abilityto prepare reports and effectively present information and respond toquestions from groups of managers, customers and employees in aprofessional and courteous manner.
Abilityto communicate with Center Receiving any mail concerns such as missingpick up slips, incorrect documented container count, or any other qualityconcerns noted.
Abilityto understand and execute all driver quality procedures outlined in theTQM program.
Abilityto read a map and understand directions.
Musthave the ability to work mandatory overtime that may include weekends, holidaysand or a different shift with little or no advance notice.
Abilityto maintain delivery and pick up schedules, meeting deadlines.
Abilityto apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnishedorally or in writing.
Abilityto solve basic problems that arise in the transportation environment.
Abilityto lift up to 50 lbs with or without accommodations.
Candidatesmust have a basic enough understanding of English to be able to understandand follow safety and other operational directions communicated inEnglish, irrespective of their native language
